1/14 Post surgery update (from Chris)

I want to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers yesterday. They were so comforting throughout the day. Here are some more details now that things have slowed down a bit. Sorry if I am over sharing . So April did very well. Her surgery went 10 hours, and they still couldn’t finish all they wanted to do, for fears of keeping her under too long and the risk of blood clots (she had one after emergency appendix surgery when she was pregnant with Faith). So they were able to remove both breasts and the cancerous lymph which is great. They were able to reconstruct one breast using her stomach, but had to stop short of finishing the other. They put an expander in to save the skin for surgery in probably May or June to finish. But the important parts are done- removing the cancer! Last night was rough, she is uncomfortable and they are checking on her every hour as they are concerned with clotting. But she has been smiling the entire time which isn’t really a surprise! Today they are watching for drainage and are a little concerned with one particular drain that seems to be putting out a lot. If it doesn’t slow down, she may need to go back in for more surgery, so please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. She is awake this morning and sounds great. Will know more early this afternoon.
